LCD or Rear projection CRT TV?

I can get a Vizio HDTVL32 32 inch LCD tv or a Hitachi 43 inch 43UWX10B rear projection CRT to play my PS3 on. Both for the same price. The Hitachi is 3 years old and the Vizio is refurbished. I have heard that the Vizio has bad black display which is important in video games, and that the Hitachi has excellent picture quality for a rear projection…Which one should I get?

As an extremely happy owner of a Hitachi CRT RPTV and one who’s had nothing but good things to say about every Hitachi product I’ve ever owned, not to mention that I’m an enthusiastic advocate for CRT RPTVs even though they’re going the way of the dinosaur I was fully prepared to endorse the previous answer.

Then I did a bit of research on this particular set and to say I’m shocked would be an understatement. Wow, talk about a shocker! And all these expensive issues happened right around the three year mark too, kind of makes you wonder if the seller might just be aware of this info as well. Sadly I must advise against this set and point you instead towards the LCD though I’d still shop around a bit first.

In fact Best Buy has the Hitachi 51f59 CRT RPTV on sale right now for $799, that’s 51 inch’s of wide screen goodness with a native resolution of 1080i. This set has received awesome reviews and the components used are all from prior sets and time tested so there’s no issues to be had. Great price on a great set and one I can personally endorse without reservation not to mention a lot of fans in the A/V world, true videophiles who live and breath this stuff. Just a little something to think about.
