Fun and Easy Christmas Crafts Ideas

With our children out of school for the Christmas time we sometimes need something to fill their free time. Instead of going out and wasting money and gas on an activity, stay home and do a Christmas craft. This is great family time. You and your children will share many laughs and stories during craft time. Here are some great ideas for quick and easy Christmas themed crafts. Candy Cane Cards Making Christmas cards can be fun and will let your children express their creativity. If you have some candy canes in the house, try making candy cane cards. For this activity you will need individually wrapped candy canes, construction paper, glue, and whatever else your child may want to decorate the card with. Stickers, cotton, and markers are great things to add decorations to your cards. Encourage your child to make a clever Christmas greeting and to be creative. They can make cards for each other or other family members to give on Christmas day. Christmas Tree Place Cards Have your children make creative place setting for Christmas dinner. You will need green construction paper, markers, glue and scissors. As always if you have things like cotton to create snow or special acrylic or neon markers, these will make the place settings look even better. Fold the construction paper in half and draw the outline of a Christmas tree. Cut the outline so that there are two trees connected by their points. Fold the bottom portions of the tree under, about ½ an inch, so it will stand. Let your child write the family members names on the cards and decorate the Christmas tree place cards. At Christmas dinner, they will be proud to display their artwork to the family. An Elf Door Create a little whimsy by having your child create an elf’s entrance by the front door or their door. The story is that elves are helping more than ever to help Santa deliver large gifts. But elves hate to scurry down chimneys getting dusty and our regular human doorknobs are just too high. While you make the door, talk to your child about what they think elves lives are like. You will need a sturdy cardboard to create the door, paint, a bottle cap and cork for the doorknob and other things to decorate the door. Cut the cardboard into a rectangle and paint the door. Attach the bottle cap to the door and glue the cork to the cap. Create a “Elves Only” sign to put up above the door. Use a reusable adhesive to attach the door to the wall. Let your child decorate the door with a Christmas theme. You can even use cotton and black construction paper to create a snow man.

A few years ago, if you were looking to purchase a new pair of shoes, you went off to a department or shoe store; Looked around, tried a few pairs on and took your purchase home that day. These days, more and more people are deciding not to go into town, and buying their shoes online. Now, I believe this is partly because we’ve become more busy, but mostly because we now have access to brands, designers, styles and sizes that are not available to purchase in our local shoe stores. If you feel the need for a women’s size 14, extra-narrow (or wide), red pump with a 3 inch high heel, chances are, you’ll find it at one of many online shoe stores. However, not all online shoe stores are the same. So i have put together some advice, and things to look out for when buying shoes online. 1)Post and packaging Charges: The Added Cost when Buying Shoes Online. Always find out what the P&P charges are before spending lots of time adding items to cart or shopping bag. You may think you’re getting a bargain on all those shoes, but if P&P cost is too high, you may end up paying more than anticipated. Especially when ordering from a country other than the one you live in. Lots of online shoe shops offer free P&P, which is great! But do some price comparisons before you purchase. Sometimes, you’ll get a better deal at an online shoe shop that charges a reasonable price for P&P, and still save £££. 2)Returns/Exchanges – Know the Policies in Advance. Another major factor in buying shoes online, is being able to return or exchange them if there’s something wrong with them, they don’t fit, or just aren’t the way you thought they would be. Most online shoe stores will have a returns policy, but DO NOT take it for granted. Make sure before putting in those card details, that you’ll be able to return the unused shoes for any reason. Ok, if you’re taking a chance on a heavily discounted pair of shoes, then you might decide to buy without a return policy. But you still need to know what your rights for that sale are before buying. Also, find out in advance if you’ll have to pay the return postal fees, if you do decide to send the shoes back. 3)Want your Shoes quick? Check delivery Times. If its an absolute must that you have a certain pair of shoes by “xx” date, I strongly advise buying them in person at an actual shoe shop. Or ordering them well in advance, and that there are other options available if your shoes don’t arrive in time. I AM NOT saying that online shoe shops don’t post out in a timely fashion! In fact, I have purchased many pairs of shoes online, and they have all arrived in record time, but why take any chances? Again, find out the delivery policy of the online shoe shop you’re buying from, and make sure the shoes your buying are actually in stock! If they are backordered, this could add weeks till you get them. ~Summery~ As long as you buy from reputable online shoe stores and pay extra attention to the info above, buying online is an excellent way to save time and money; and to give yourself the biggest choice when buying shoes online. Make Your Own Green Dumbbells

JUST when we’re about to throw compact discs, comes an idea that could make these obsolete data storage device useful and “green” at that. The use of CDs has significantly declined with the birth of electronic gadgets like the MP3, MP4, MP5, PSP and even the USB (portable flash disc), which are capable of storing data, pictures, movies, videos, music among many other modern day data. CDs are now considered as obsolete, thus rendering them “useless, alienable and disposable” at that. But wait. Don’t just throw it away. We could actually make something out of it. Why not make a dumbbell out of these “useless, alienable and disposable” CDs. Problem on Solid Waste Disposal Environmental groups have pushed the panic button amid what they described as an imminent garbage crisis. In fact, many American States have been pondering where to take the bulk of garbage that they are producing. While there are already technologies designed to transform garbage into something else, plus the recycling system in place, it seemed not enough to contain the solid waste disposal problem that has hounded not just the US but in many countries as well. The ultimate solution, according to environmentalists is to reduce garbage volume at source by way of recycling and re-use of non-biodegradable wastes. CDs, for one, do not necessarily have to end up in repository facilities. There are many other things that we could make out of our old CDs aside from playing park of the garbage chunk. CDs as Weightlifting Device Workouts have always been regarded as an important component for health and fitness, why is probably the reason why people go to the gym for some physical routines, like lifting weights like the dumbbells. The good news for people spending some few hours in the gym lifting some dumbbells to tone their arm muscles is that they could actually make their own dumbbells at home — and take note, in just five minutes. What’s even more amazing is that you can actually customize your CD dumbbells because you, yourself will make it. Making CD dumbbells is quite simple. You actually need a half-inch round rod, ½” washers and bolts, 150 pieces of your old or defective CDs, reciprocating saw, tape measure, adhesive tape, ½” wrench, and a table vise. What we should do is to place 75 CDs on both ends of the threaded rod. It is imperative that we thread and put in place bolts first, followed by the flat washer then the CDs. After the CDs, we again put a flat washer and screw tight it with another bolt. We do the same thing over at the other side of the rod. Time to Sweat it Out It’s done. Now it’s time to do some light workouts right inside the comfort of your home using those old dusty CDs in your drawer. To be perfectly clear as to how it should be done, there are websites offering video demonstration on making this five-minute “green” CD dumbbells. It is always better to do things and other stuffs yourselves, using those which we are bound to junk. That way, we get to do it right, customize the way we want it and more than anything else, we get to “Go Green” in our own little way.

Hair Falling Out? Don’t Panic!

Hair loss can be extremely difficult to accept and deal with especially for women. However, if you understand the common causes of this condition you can take steps to prevent it or reduce its severity. Hair loss in women can be absolutely devastating for the sufferer’s self image and emotional well being. Treatment of this type of hair loss includes immunomodulating therapies such as glucocorticoids, topical immunotherapy, or anthralin, or biologic-responce modifiers such as Minoxidil. The choice of treatment depends on the patient’s age, as well as the extent of hair loss. Milder cases often see a greater improvement with treatment than severe cases. In no case does treatment restore full hair in patients with 100% scalp or body hair loss. Even more unfortunately, the medical community also treats the issue of women’s hair loss as if it were nonexistent. Since hair loss doesn’t appear to be life threatening, most physicians pay little attention to women’s complaints about hair loss and essentially tell their patients that “it’s no big deal” and that “you’ll just have to live with it. “Stress and some illnesses such as anemia and infections, can also lead to hair loss. Stress can lead to an increase in hormones circulating through the blood stream and can also cause problems with the body systems responsible for hair growth. Infection can disrupt the normal operations of the body’s system and cause problems with normal hair growth and patterns. The only proven treatment for female-pattern baldness is minoxidil. Most users see improvements, including a halt to the balding or slowing down of it, as well as thicker hair. Up to 25% of women experience hair regrowth. Other solutions include wigs, hair transplants (taking hair from the sides and back of the head) and plastic surgery (such as scalp reduction, where the bald area is removed and the bit with hair on is stretched forward). Unfortunately many conventional doctors downplay hair loss as an inevitable part of aging for both sexes, treating it with topical products like Rogaine that enhance existing hair but offer no real solution to the causes of hair loss, and therefore no prevention of continued hair thinning. This leads many women — especially those in menopause — to think that there is nothing they can do to stop their hair loss. Experts say our tresses usually grow at the rate of about one-half inch per month – with each hair having a growth phase of two to six years. At that point the hair “rests” for a period of time, then falls out – and the follicle from which it sprang soon starts growing a new strand. And so the cycle continues, usually well into our senior years.
