Christmas Shoes & Christmas Blessing & Xmas Hope - $12.99 Includes:The Christmas Shoes (2002) Christmas Blessing (2005) The Christmas Hope (2009) The Christmas Shoes This sentimental made-for-TV drama was based on the bestselling novel by Donna VanLiere, which in turn was inspired by the popular song of the same name. Rob Lowe stars as Robert Layton, a workaholic attorney who sorely neglects his family, even during the Christmas season. Clearly, Layton is overdue for a “humanizing” treatment, which comes in the form of a little boy named Nathan Andrews (Max Morrow). Learning that his mother, Maggie (Kimberly Williams), is dying from congenital heart failure, and unable to financially rely upon his underemployed father, Jack (Hugh Thompson), Nathan goes about collecting tin cans and other throwaways so that he can afford an expensive pair of red shoes for his ailing mom. Nathan’s plight not only touches Layton, but also has a heartwarming trickle-down effect on the lawyer’s estranged family. The Christmas Shoes debuted December 1, 2002, on CBS. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi Christmas Blessing Made for television, The Christmas Blessing is a sequel to the earlier CBS holiday offering The Christmas Shoes, with Rob Lowe briefly reprising his portrayal of Robert Layton, a lawyer whose life was forever changed by a pair of “enchanted” shoes. This time around, the shoes have passed into the hands of Tucker Bennett (Shaun Johnston), the son of a seriously ill youngster named Charlie (Angus T. Jones. As fate would have it, Charlie is a student of schoolteacher Meghan (Rebecca Gayheart), who is endeavoring to set up a day-care center for single moms in the small town where she lives. At the same time in the same town, young medical resident Nathan Andrews (Neil Patrick Harris), his self-confidence shattered by the death of a teenage patient on the operating table, has returned home to work in the garage owned by his dad Jack (Shaun Johnston). In due course, Nathan meets Meghan and Charlie, and becomes intimately involved in the trials and tribulations of both, leading to an emotional climax in which Nathan must decide whether or not to summon his dormant medical skills to save Charlie’s life. Singers NewSong and Blake Shelton appear as themselves, respectively performing the title song and the new composition “Nobody But Me”. The Christmas Blessing originally aired on December 18, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi The Christmas Hope Devoted social worker Patty (Madeline Stowe) takes in a struggling nine-year-old girl, and soon the child’s spirit helps heal the emotional wounds that are eating away at Patty and her husband’s marriage. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi |

Santa Baby 2: Christmas Maybe/Christmas in Boston/Snowglobe [2 Discs] - $12.99 Includes:Christmas in Boston (2005) Snowglobe (2007) Santa Baby 2 (2009) Christmas in Boston Ever since Junior High, Gina (Marla Sokoloff) has been carrying on a pen-pal friendship with Seth (Patrick J. Adams). Now fully grown, Gina is a journalist living in Boston, while Seth is a toy-company executive. When Seth shows up in Beantown for a conference, one would think that he’d be looking forward to being interviewed by Gina, whom he’s never seen–and that Gina would feel the same way. Trouble is, self-conscious Gina has for all these years been sending along pictures of her friend Ellen (Lindy Booth) in her letters to Seth, while Seth has been sending pictures of his friend Matt (Jonathan Cherry). Terrified that Seth won’t like her if he finds out what she really looks like, Gina sends Ellen in her place for the interview–while Seth, suffering similar fears, prevails upon Matt to impersonate him. Given this set-up, and taking into consideration the title of this made-for-TV movie, no one should be unduly surprised by the outcome of the story! Christmas in Boston made its ABC Family channel bow on December 14, 2005. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi Snowglobe A woman who always longed for the perfect Christmas receives a magical snow globe that transports her to a land where every day is the twenty fifth of December in this family-oriented fantasy starring Christina Milian and Lorraine Bracco. When it comes to the holidays, Angela (Milian) would rather be just about anywhere other than home. Upon shaking an antique snow globe that she received as a gift, however, this embittered cynic is whisked away to a magical kingdom where Christmas never ends, and where she will have to choose between the man of her dreams and a love she could have never imagined. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi Santa Baby 2 This sequel to Santa Baby finds entrepreneur Mary Class (Jenny McCarthy) faced with the prospect of taking over the family business when her father feels he can no longer handle the job’s many responsibilities. Though tempted, she is reluctant to leave her booming career in New York City, until the arrival of Teri (Kelly Stables), an upstart looking to take over the workshop at the North Pole, spurs Mary into action. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi |

Voicing the same character Bagdasarian had, that of the chipmunks’ “father” Dave Seville, Bagdasarian, Jr. created the story of the chipmunks preparing a Carnegie Hall appearance, only to realize that Alvin has given away his harmonica, an instrument with which he’s scheduled to perform a solo. On the play list for their big show was “The Chipmunk Song (Christmas, Don’t Be Late),” the single that launched the chipmunks’ decades-spanning career in 1958. So popular was Alvin & the Chipmunks: A Chipmunk Christmas, that in 1983, NBC produced a second chipmunks TV series, Alvin and the Chipmunks (1983-1990), which ran as a Saturday morning children’s program, spawning a variety of videos and further record albums. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi Alvin and the Chipmunks: Dave’s Wonderful Life Take the classic movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” add Dave and the Chipmunks and what have you got? Dave wishing he’d never been born and Alvin, Simon and Theodore showing him how important he really is. ~ Rovi Alvin and the Chipmunks: Merry Christmas, Mr. Carroll This animated version of “A Christmas Carol” presents the antics of Alvin playing Scrooge! Visited by three ghostly visitors, Dave, Simon and Theodore as they teach him the true meaning of Christmas. ~ Rovi Alvin and the Chipmunks: A Chipmunk Celebration No synopsis available. |

The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas - $12.99 The third incarnation of TV’s gloriously ghoulish “Munster” family appears in this made-for-TV movie, originally telecast December 17, 1996 by the Fox network. That lovable pint-sized werewolf Eddie Munster (Bug Hall) feels depressed as the Yuletide holiday approaches, yearning for a “Transylvania Christmas” while being stuck in Southern California. Eddie’s Frankensteinish dad Herman Munster (Sam McMurray) tries to cheer the boy up by arranging for a Christmas celebration in the tradition of the Old Country. To top things off, vampirish Grandpa Munster (Sandy Baron) extends the Holiday cheer by giving Santa Claus (Mark Mitchell) a magic potion–which, unfortunately, is swiped by a pair of larcenous elves (Ed Gale, Arturo Gil). In other developments, Lily Munster (Ann Magnuson) enters a house-decorating contest (love those designer cobwebs!), and several other copyrighted Universal Pictures monsters make fleeting cameo appearances. A critical assessment of The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas is virtually impossible: Either one loves the Munsters, or one doesn’t–and that’s the name of that dirge! ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi |

BEST OF TV DETECTIVES (4PC) - $12.99 Includes:Dragnet: The Big Little Jesus (1953) Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Cheney Vase (1955) Man with a Camera: Two Strings of Pearls (1958) Man With a Camera: Missing (1959) Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice (1962) Dragnet: The Big Little Jesus In one of the most famous Dragnet episodes of all time, Joe Friday (Jack Webb) and Frank Smith (Ben Alexander) investigate the theft of a statue of the Baby Jesus from a Catholic church, just before the first Christmas Mass. Father Rojas (Harry Bartell) explains that the doors of the church are always left unlocked; when Joe asks if the doors are open for thieves, the priest replies gently, “Especially thieves.” Following the slimmest of leads, the two detectives haul in a suspicious derelict (James Griffith), but he turns out to be innocent. Only at the very end of the story do we learn the identity–and the touchingly honorable motives–of the youthful “thief”. The first Dragnet episode filmed in color (Technicolor, no less!), “The Big Little Jesus” was initially heard on December 22, 1953 as a radio broadcast, which was actually the soundtrack of the televised version (this soundtrack was later released commercially as an LP record by RCA Victor). The episode was refilmed as “The Christmas Story”, which aired December 21, 1967 as part of NBC’s “new” Dragnet series. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Cheney Vase Recently discharged museum curator Lyle Endicott (Darren McGavin) uses a forged letter to gain entry to the home of elderly recluse Martha Cheney (played by Patricia Collinge, who had been prominently featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1943 movie classic Shadow of a Doubt). A lonely invalid, Martha is kept alive only by her obsession with preventing her prized possession, a priceless vase, from falling into the hands of strangers. Conversely, Lyle wants nothing more out of life than to wrest the vase away from Martha and sell it to a museum for a hefty price. Needless to say, one of these two characters is in for a big disappointment by episode’s end. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi Man with a Camera: Two Strings of Pearls No synopsis available. Alfred Hitchcock Presents: The Sorcerer’s Apprentice Escaping from an institution, a young retarded boy named Hugo (Brandon de Wilde) is taken under the wing of sideshow magician Sadini (David J. Stewart), whose acts consists of sawing his wife, Irene (Diana Dors), in half. It so happens that Irene is two-timing Sadini — and worse, she is planning his murder. Hoodwinking Hugo into being her accomplice, Irene does away with husband, only to receive a grisly comeuppance thanks to Hugo’s inability to separate fact from fantasy. Originally filmed for the seventh season of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, this episode was never given a network telecast, due to NBC’s queasiness over its gruesome finale. However, the episode was included in the Alfred Hitchcock Presents syndication package, an |
