Guide to buying a LED TV

LED LCD televisions and fastest growing technology on the market for flat screen and 2010 is set to be the year of great competition to start, as manufacturers such as Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba and LG announce their sales forecasts. Samsung expected 2009 sales to see about 2 million LED LCD televisions, but beat this figure with sales of 2.6 million, and this year expects sales to jump to a staggering 10 million. Samsung currently has the largest market share LED LCD TV with a market share of 68.3% with Sharp in second with 27.9%. However, other brands have realized sales potential for the coming years and continue up the technology and competitive prices. In 2013, it is expected that more than 156 million LED LCD TV units have been sold.

LED LCD televisions have caused some confusion since its introduction, and Samsung, for example, have been asked to resubmit their marketing conditions to explain that the LED TVs are not purely LED advertising but LCD TVs with LED technology. This technically means that the LED LCD TVs LCD TV technology LED lighting, which can be backlit or edgelit. LED-backlit LCD TVs have a panel of LEDs behind the LCD screen which creates more or less light to improve the image shown. TV edgelit have LEDs around the edge points of light to the areas needed and also allows the body to be thin.

LED TV LCD can be up to a third slimmer than LCD TVs, due to the size of the LEDs compared to CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lamps) used in LCD TVs. LED LCD televisions also create more vivid images with better contrast and color spectrum. The viewing angles are much improved, and now compete with a plasma TV. Although these factors are very important to the overall performance of LED LCD TV, one of the main selling points is the reduction in consumption energy. LED edge-lit LCD TV uses 40% less energy than an LCD TV as the mercury-free LED which require less energy used for lighting. Most Manufacturers are also included energy conservation and the environment as well, so their carbon footprint and energy bills can be reduced. The effect on energy consumption can be quite dramatic when compared with other plasma and LCD televisions. ambient light sensors used in LG televisions, for example, also reduces power by detecting light in the room and adjusts the brightness of the TV accordingly.
