Look to LG, Samsung, and Sony as your go to options there. The price point might make it a bit tricky, but if you look around I think you can find a set for the price range. Maybe even make use of stores that will price match (like Best Buy). So find a cheaper price online and get them to match it (if you prefer buying from a retail outlet vs a online vendor).
LG 26LH20-UA – $400 @ Best Buy, but $369 on Amazon
Samsung LN26B360 – $370 on Amazon
Toshiba Toshiba 26AV502U – $340 on Amazon
Those are really the only 3 reasonably decent looking 26″ sets I could see in your price range. Otherwise you’d either need to go down a size or add to your budget (or go with a no-name brand TV, which I personally wouldn’t recommend).
Walmart has Viore, Vizio, and Sanyo options that would fit your size and budget requirements. But those are all 2nd tier brands. I’ve personally not owned one or know anyone that has, so can’t speak to their reliability or image quality. But you could investigate those as well. A quick google on the 26″ Viore and Vizio seem to gave reasonably favorable responses from other consumers though.
LG 26 inc HD 720 P model is Quality / Reliable and the Lower prices compare to Samsung / Sony.Panasonic. Same Range model , about same Picture Quality.
