How can HDTV’s get any better?

In the future, how will TVs get better?
bigger screens, new technology, cheaper, contrast ratios, 240Hz, blacker blacks and brighter colors, “green” technology, OLED, better picture quality (1440p?!) thinner screens? What’s next?
It seems like the step up from standard definition to HD was so dramatic, is anything as dramatic likely to happen in the near future? (a year? two years? ten years?)
If so, what will be the new standard in the terms listed above? How can we truly perfect television, or is it perfect as it is?

ie, what’s the point of a 75″ TV if the human eye can only truly “see” 56″ from the distance the TV is placed? what’s better than a 3 000 000:1 contrast ratio? Does 240Hz really even matter? Can we really identify the difference between blacker blacks and brighter whites? Does it matter how thin a screen is if its still going to hang on the wall? What advantages does OLED hold when the technology is here? What is the definition of a perfect TV?

SED technology. THAT’S how HDTVs can get better. It has all but one of the advantages of the CRT (excellent contrast, black level, and color, instantaneous response time, wide viewing angle) but with greater power efficiency than even LED TVs, with the thickness and expected price of a plasma (except better picture quality overall).
Unfortunately, legal and manufacturing issues have delayed its launch for some time now, and I’m sure the sudden take-off of LCD technology has too.
OLED holds some potential too, but not until they find a way to stop the organic materials from breaking down.
People put too much emphasis on wall-mounting ability and form factor: that sure helped kill the CRT, which is truly a shame.
As far as resolution goes, 1080p isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. For the next several years, HD broadcasts will continue being 720p and 1080i. Although, there is display technology available on the professional market that can do considerably higher resolutions, for example, the novelty WQUXGA, which was 3840x2400p. Even on the consumer market, 2048x1536p resolutions are nothing new: we’ve seen them on high-end 21-22 inch QXGA CRT computer monitors…if only Mitsubishi and Sony and Samsung and the others had thought to put a ATSC HDTV tuner on one of those babies and sell ‘em…
