Help connecting speakers to an LCD TV?

I have these large speakers that I use as a system for my Samsung LCD TV/PS3. They are old (as in cables copper rivets, no plugs), and I know almost nothing about how this works. What should I do to connect directly to the TV? Do I need a converter box or something?

You need to run audio cables (RCA connectors on each end) audio outputs on the TV to the inputs of a stereo amplifier or receiver (receiver is an amplifier with a tuner). Then use the amplifier to power the speakers (connected to the output terminals with speaker wire.) The audio output of television itself is not strong enough to drive the speakers.
