When will HD become standard? Will I ever be able to turn it to the regular NBC channel and see it in HiDef?

I don’t mean Digital Television. I mean when will the only channels on TV be High Definition channels?

Networks can, and do, decide whether to carry programs in HD or SD (std def). Most new series are carried in HD on the major networks. But older syndicated programs, produced before the shift to HD, will have to be shown in SD.
