How I can get a coaxial cable to my HDTV monitor?

I recently moved into a new apartment and my neighbor I learned that our cable and on without a subscription service. It connects to your coax directly to your TV and get about 100 channels. I have an old Akai HDTV Monitor … How I can get the coaxial cable output on my monitor without having to subscribe through the cable company? I've tried with an ATSC tuner, which worked well, except that only local channels. Any help would be greatly appreciated …

If your Akai has no tuner at all, your options are limited. To receive 100 channels, as your neighbor, you need (in the U.S. and Canada), an analog NTSC tuner and possibly a QAM tuner. These are commonly included TVs in all but the lowest cost currently for sale. VCR works fine for analog channels (which is most likely, perhaps all) but the image on the screen high definition TV standard definition analog. Another thing worth considering U.S. cable companies are rapidly migrating single cable channels off basic cable (no box) to digital packet encryption. When this happens, its 100 analog channels will be reduced only their local broadcast stations. However, this could be good news: with a high definition digital receiver of the cable company, the Akai should give high definition large number of channels.
