Videophiles need help … HDTV I'm in the market for a budget HDTV should I go with Olevia and Vizio?

I am buying a family member first flat panel HDTV 1080p and I would be between $ 800 and $ 1500 and get a 40 "-47" LCD. After searching and searching, reading reviews and searching I have come down to two tv. 1) the ultra-affordable Syntax Olevia 42 "LCD Full HD (1080p) Television model # 242FHDTV for only $ 899 or 2) the largest 47" Vizio LCD Full HD (1080p) model HDTV Gallevia # GV47LFHDTV10A $ 1499 price was the best 1080p HDTVs on the market, but I need help on how I go. Your viewing distance will be between 8 and about 11 feet. I have not found much in the way of commentary on each TV, so I need something help. I love the price on the 42 ", but I much prefer the size of 47" so it comes down to which TV is better and why? Many thanks!

Skip the LCD and buy a 50 "720 Plasma. It will produce an image far superior to any of the LCD you are considering. In general, Plasma TVs produce better images for most of 1080 or 720 LCD. The most important aspect of the TV picture quality is contrast ratio. In this category, LCD is terrible, especially those without name-brand you are considering. You can easily pick up a 50 "Panasonic 720p set for $ 1300 to 1400 more or less, even less. $ 1080 There is no point in spec'ing, no content and no issue as it is incompatible with the U.S. TV standards. Unless the gift recipient to feel less than 4 feet from the screen, will never be able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p even a BluRay disc. A very good reference for review would be in November issue of Consumer Reports. A well done assessment of the pros and cons of LCD and Plasma TV on this issue. Astrobuf
