Why are 3D tvs needed, if 3D has been on tv before?

Why are these new 3D tvs at the CES needed? 3D has been on television before like last years super bowl or that medium episode that was in 3D.

Didn’t those 3d broadcast use the anaglyph 3d format that uses the red and blue or yellow and blue 3d glasses. That is because anaglyph 3d uses color for the 3d effect so any color display will work with it. To get away from the poor look of that 3d format, a tv must be made to do the other 3d formats. Like Polarized with the tinted glasses or field sequential with the shutter glasses. No regular tv can do them, only anaglyph.
