Goign to buy an LCD tv today and have been looking at two models? Should I go with a Samsung or Sharp?

I have been looking for weeks, basically it comes down to price. LED LCD is out of my price range, plus I need to pull the trigger soon. They are both 52 inch TVs,The Samsung is 52, 60 Mhz. The Sharp comes with a free Blue Ray and is 120 MHZ. Some say that Samsung is a better product. I will be watching blueray and cablevision HDMI and gaming with an Xbox….what TV will serve me best for my price in the price range of 1,000 to 1500. Maybe I should look into an Insignia or a Westinghouse or Acer or Vizio? Does anyone have any knowledge of those products and if so would you be able to give me some pointers or links to some products to consider.

Panasonic, Sony, and Samsung are typically considered the top manufacturers for sure. But Sharp, LG, and Toshiba are also producing really strong HDTVs right now as well. They are all most definitely worth consideration and okay to buy.

Sharp actually produces Sony’s panels. Sony used to buy their panels from Samsung until they changed some manufacturing thing or business practice. So Sony was forced to change. They now buy their panels from Sharp (they then add their own image processor and such).

I would definitely avoid Westinghouse, Acer, or Vizio, at the size of TV you’re looking at. I would not recommend 2nd tier brands in even smaller sets, but can kind of accept it in smaller sizes. But in bigger sizes, you want the top brands, hands down.

Being that the Sharp is 120Hz refresh rate and comes with a free BluRay player, I’d definitely get that. I don’t imagine the Samsung is going to deliver much, if at all, better picture, at least the model you’re looking at. You’d have to go to their LED line, which you have ruled out. So I’d be more than content on getting the Sharp in this case.

But for your budget, I would look at Plasma frankly. The Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10 is perhaps the best HDTV you can own at 50″. Its only listed at $1,100 on Amazon (if you want to buy from a retail outlet, go to one that will price match).

Plasma has no motion blur problems, so the 120Hz/240Hz vs 60Hz debate doesn’t matter. Plasma is near instantaneous in its response time (0.001ms). It plays back fast motion flawlessly.

Plasma delivers vivid colors, true blacks, and deep contrast. Its inherent to the technology. So there’s no LED vs CCFL issue. You have 1 option, and it beats both LCD options right out of the box.

You might have other reservations about going that route and that’s fine. But I just wanted to throw that out there, because its most definitely attainable with your budget and size needs.
