Questions about LCD HDTV’s?

ok so i have a question about my new LCD HDTV, its an insignia 36 inch HDTV and its 720p if thats important. When i watch normal tv like that just converted to digital the picture if perfect and HD. The picture is really nice and you can tell i have an HDTV but when i turn on the satelite tv the picture is worse. The picture becomes blurry and isnt as good as digital tv, so can someone help me solve my problem? do i need a new or a special cable to make my satelite show clear HD picture? can u help me with my problem? i want the picture from satelite tv to be as good as the picture on digital tv.

oh and one more thing if this helps, if i connect the satelite to a regular tv like one of those analog tvs that need a tv converter box the picture of the satelite is perfect! it has HD quality picture if i watch satelite on my old normal tv.

It sounds like your Satellite box is a Standard Definition (SD) only box. So when you display it on your HDTV the image becomes degraded (either because of a resolution or aspect ratio related distortion). That is pretty standard affair with watching SD on an HDTV (regardless of the source).

I would guess the “normal” TV you’re watching is actually in HD. So hence it looks better. Because it is not suffering from the same distortion issues.

And the reason the Satellite looks so good on the old TV is likely that the old TV is an SDTV. So there is no conversion happening. Thus no distortion of any kind. So the image quality is unaffected, and looks good.

The only real solution is to contact your satellite provider and find out about getting an HD box from them. Then you can tune into HD satellite programming. That should then look great on your HDTV.
